Mark Steyn’s Jan. 28 article “Playing real dumb” rang more true to me after I heard the president’s “State of the Union” address as he spoke of his Middle East foreign policy. Why?

Because the very point Mr. Steyn made in his article about Britain renaming Islamic terrorism as “anti-Islamic activity” to soften the reaction from Muslims by engaging in “Orwellian Newspeak”— that is, to hide the truth of terrorists plotting to murder and terrorize “infidels” in the name of Allah definitely belonging under the category of Islamic fascism.

However it was to be handled like the fairly tale of the “Three Little Pigs” which Mr. Steyn also reported was censored in Britain because it too, was considered offensive and politically incorrect for Arab children.

Unfortunately, our president has engaged in this same kind of misleading rhetoric by repeating the same mantra over and over for a “Palestinian state side by side with Israel in peace.” Despite the facts and reality that the so-called moderated Fatah PA President Mahmoud Abbas and his spokesman Saeb Erekat have repeatedly said in word and deed that they will never accept a Jewish State.

This foreign policy “Orwellian Newspeak” media sound bites sounds nice, but the facts on the ground are that the people Mr. Bush considers Muslim moderates that he wants Israel to live side-by-side with are under the authority of Mr. Abbas whose so-called Fatah security forces are none other than Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, which, like Hamas, is still known for its terrorism.

What our president did not say at his “State of the Union” address about our Middle East foreign policy, and what he did not say about the Annapolis Summit in Maryland, is that just days before and also during the summit there were fatal terrorist ambushes against Jewish civilians in Sderot, Kiriat Arba, and in Northern Jerusalem — attacks on civilians and off-duty soldiers not by Hamas but by the so-called moderate Fatah’s security force.

Israeli Ido Zoldan, was one victim — a father who left a wife and two children. Off-duty soldiers Ahikam Amihail and David Rubin were also coldly murdered. Worst of all, President Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Mr. Abbas and not even Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert condemned Mr. Abbas’ organization for these violations of the peace process. So, to continue speaking about a Palestinian State living side-by-side in peace while the terrorists groups of both Fatah and Hamas continue to ambush and/or shoot rockets at Israeli civilians only parrots more misleading Orwellian Newspeak.

Would our president like al Qaeda to set up housekeeping right next to the White House? Well that’s what he is expecting Israel to go alone with.

Even Jewish-American leaders of major Jewish organizations refuse to condemn Mr. Olmert and his Knesset members who continue to go along with this propaganda and refuse to speak out and do their job: defend and protect the safety and sovereignty of its citizens. All of its citizens, not just the liberal secular but the religious Jews who have the courage to stand up for their Jewish rights and biblical heritage to exist in the ancient land of their forefathers undivided capital.

Instead of the delegates speaking out at the Annapolis Summit against Mr. Abbas’ thugs, they remained silent as if nothing were happening and, worse, they continued to try to persuade Israel to give up even more land to its enemies and re-open checkpoints.

What will a new 2008 U.S. president do in a situation like this? Will Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee, or John McCain continue on with this charade? Or will someone stand up for truth and bat us some home runs with enough courage to make all parties involved accountable for their actions. Or will they instead make excuses for terrorism so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings as Britain and France have been doing?

We see what happened in London and France when they capitulated to Islamic demands. It could happen here too if we don’t change our Middle East foreign policy based on the truth about Mr. Abbas’s real objectives, and if we don’t base our foreign policy on justice for the victims of terrorism and required peace based on facts.

I hope we won’t end up being a nation with Muslim Shariah law replacing U.S. constitutional law all because we close our eyes to the truth about how Israel and all other non-Muslim countries around the world are being invaded by radical Islamic death cults. Or because we continue to play dumb and accept these Orwellian sound bites for so long we let our enemies use our own freedoms to undermine us and impose their intolerant Shariah culture on us to reduce us to a “dhimmitude” society.

The State of our Union is not truly secure if we are not secure in our ability to identify the real enemy of our freedom. It’s not Israel. It’s “Islamofacist” terrorism. If we can’t say so, we won’t be able to beat it. The Torah warns us not to put our faith in false alliances.
