South Carolina State 74, Howard 61

Julius Carter scored a career-high 19 points, including a 9-for-9 performance from the free throw line, to lead the Bulldogs past the Bison yesterday at Burr Gymnasium.

Carrio Bennett scored 14 and Thomas Bookman 13 for South Carolina State (9-17, 5-7 MEAC), which ended a three-game losing streak.

Randy Hampton scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half, and Eugene Myatt also scored 17 for Howard (5-21, 2-9), which has lost six straight and nine of its last 10.

South Carolina State led by as many as 18 points early in the second half until Howard pulled within six points with about eight minutes left.

South Carolina State immediately regained control with a 8-1 run, and the Bulldogs were not seriously threatened the rest of the way.


South Carolina State 106, Howard 78

Marie Reid came off the bench to score a career-high 31 points and lead four players in double figures as the Bulldogs rolled to an easy win over the Bison at Burr Gymnasium.

Howard (3-21, 2-9 MEAC) missed 40 of 49 attempts from the field. South Carolina State (10-13, 7-5) shot 63 percent from the field and recorded a 58-33 rebounding advantage.

Bowie State 85, Allen 46

The Bulldogs led from the start and routed the Yellow Jackets in a nonconference game at A.C. Jordan Arena. Senior Allyson Swailes led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

McDaniel 75, Gallaudet 46

The Green Terror used a fullcourt press to hamper the Bison in a victory last night at the Field House.

McDaniel shot 59 percent from the field in the second half.
