SEEN AND HEARD IN VIERA, FLA.

The Nationals’ jerseys this year feature a patch that commemorates the opening of their new ballpark. It’s a nice-looking logo, with an image of the park in the foreground and the Capitol dome and Washington Monument in the background.

There’s a problem, though, with the wording. Across the top, it reads: “2008 Inaugural Season”. Across the bottom, it reads: “Washington DC”.

Wait a minute — this isn’t the team’s first season in the District. That was 2005. What gives?

The belief here is the team probably wanted to use the stadium name instead of “Washington DC”. But since there were questions about whether a corporate naming deal would be in place by Opening Day, they had to go with the generic line.
