POWER RANKINGS (Last week’s ranking in parentheses)

1. Dallas (2): Closing in on Red Wings and added big fish in Richards

2. Detroit (1): Stuart has been overrated but could be nice No. 4 defenseman

3. New Jersey (5): Seems like Brodeur gets stronger with each consecutive game

4. Anaheim (4): Best defense corps gets a bonus in PP specialist Bergeron

5. San Jose (9): Added the best defenseman available in Campbell

6. Pittsburgh (7): Gave up a lot for Hossa; Gill might prove as valuable

7. Montreal (3): Dryden … Roy … Price? Canadiens sure hope so

8. Calgary (10): Kiprusoff playing at an elite level changes everything

9. Vancouver (): Big addition is Bieksa back from injury

10. Ottawa (6): No big player deal but reeling team did change coaches

1. Evgeni Malkin, Penguins: Is dominating games like no one else right now

2. Martin Brodeur, Devils: Twenty-three straight starts so much for extra rest

3a. Alex Ovechkin, Capitals: Some nice passes lately but needs to regain scoring touch

3b. Jarome Iginla, Flames: Top five in goals, points, plus-minus and shots

1. Jonathan Toews, Blackhawks: Leads the top choices in points a game and plus-minus

2. Patrick Kane, Blackhawks: Will be hard to pick against him should he keep points lead

3. Peter Mueller, Coyotes: Leads rookies in goals but has none in 10 games

1. Brent Sutter, Devils: New Jersey’s 7-1-2 stretch puts it on top of Eastern Conference

2. Barry Trotz, Predators: Minor trades after big catches last two years (Forsberg, Witt)

3. Bruce Boudreau, Capitals: Might be more goalie psychiatrist than tactician down the stretch
