Yet another “Macbeth”-with-a-twist opened last night at the Folger Shakespeare Library — this time with a focus on the play’s magic elements, as conceived by the illusionist Teller. This alt-theater production follows last year’s nude production of “Macbeth” by the Washington Shakespeare Company as well as the Synetic Theater’s brilliant wordless “Macbeth.” Of all of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, perhaps “Macbeth” is the most adaptable and resistant to petrification. What could possibly be next?

Pixar’s ‘Macbeth’ — Are the Bard’s works given to animation? Sure, why not? The BBC commissioned an “Animated Shakespeare” series in the early ‘90s, but there’s no matching the genius of the bards of the Bay Area.

Musical ‘Macbeth’ — Literary theorist H.W. Fawkner declared in 1990 that “you cannot turn Shakespeare into music.” Verdi’s opera “Macbeth,” he said, only half succeeded. But did Mr. Fawkner happen to catch the Irish movie “Once” and glimpse its possibilities for musical storytelling? We also seem to recall Mick Jagger having his way once with a lyric about “blood-stained hands.”

‘Macbeth’ in a mine — Think we’re kidding? In 1999, a Newfoundland-based experimental theater company staged “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the bottom of a mine shaft.

‘Macbeth’ goes to church — In the style of anti-“Harry Potter” agonistes, this “Macbeth” would minimize the play’s themes of power lust and amp up the role of the true evildoers: the witches.

‘Dancing With Macbeth’ — Celebrities would go toe to toe with full-time Shakespearean actors. We hear former President Bill Clinton may need something to do in a couple months — and who would make a better amateur Lady Macbeth?
