Last night at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston

Francois Bouchard, Washington’s second-round pick in the 2006 draft, was named the offensive player of the month for December in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Bouchard had seven goals and 15 assists in 11 games for Baie-Comeau. Bouchard, who led the “Q” in scoring last season, ranks sixth in the league with 53 points in 38 games for Le Drakkar this year.

“That’s pretty cool, eh? Good for him — he deserves it. From what I’ve seen he is a good hockey player and he is getting better every day.”

— Caps coach Bruce Boudreau on Nicklas Backstrom being named NHL rookie of the month for December

30 Goals for Alex Ovechkin in the team’s first 40 games, which ties him with Bobby Carpenter in 1984-85 for most in team history in the first 40 contests of the season

10 Goals for Mike Green, which makes him the first Caps defenseman to register double-digit goals since Sergei Gonchar in 2002-03. With the exception of the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign, the Caps had at least one defenseman hit double digits every year from 1981-1982 until ‘02-03
