ANALYSIS/OPINION:

By referring to a mental recession and calling us a nation of whiners, Phil Gramm demonstrates that he is a much better economist than he is a politician (Obama mocks Gramm remarks, Page 1, Friday). In the face of war and economic woe, Franklin D. Roosevelt made awful conditions sound almost palatable with fine oration:

“This generation has a rendezvous with destiny,” and “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
