Arthur Flach was appointed chairman of the board of directors of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA). Mr. Flach, managing partner at Grant Thornton in Baltimore, has been an MACPA member since 1981. He previously served as a member of the MACPA´s Legislative Strategy Committee and Legislative Executive Committee.

Myrvin Christopherson was appointed acting president of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE) in the District. Mr. Christopherson replaces William E. Hamm, FIHE president for the past nine years who is moving on to the post of interim president at Wartburg College in Iowa. Prior to being appointed, Mr. Christopherson served for 19 years as president of Dana College in Blair, Neb.


Payton Baran joined Goodman & Co., a public accounting and business advisory firm, as an associate in the Rockville office. Before joining Goodman & Co. full time, Mr. Baran gained accounting experience with the company as a summer intern in 2007.


Robert Hopkins joined Phillips & Co., a global business development and strategic communications consulting firm, as senior vice president and managing director of the D.C. regional office. Mr. Hopkins served as NASA chief of strategic communications.


M. Carter DeLorme joined Jones Day’s D.C. office as a partner in the labor and employment practice. Mr. DeLorme, formerly a partner with Winston & Strawn in the District, has represented clients before the National Labor Relations Board, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, state employment agencies, dispute resolution organizations, and in federal and state courts.

David Fischer joined Cooley Godward Kronish’s D.C. office as a partner in the tax group. Mr. Fischer headed tax litigation at Baker Hostetler and was tax coordinator for its D.C. office.

Sam Maruca and Dan Luchsinger joined Covington & Burling as tax partners in the firm´s D.C. office. Mr. Maruca focuses on federal income tax. He has represented clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech, communications, specialty materials and retail sectors. Mr. Luchsinger has practiced in the tax field for more than 15 years. His focus is on assisting U.S. multinationals in the structuring of joint ventures, acquisitions, and dispositions.


Margaret Burnette was appointed health solutions principal of Vangent Inc., a consulting, human capital management, and business process outsourcing service firm. Prior to joining Vangent, Ms. Burnette served as executive director of Bioinformatics Board for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
