The Cubs and Brewers are battling for first place in the NL Central. 8 p.m., ESPN

Brett Favre

He won’t go away. But at least he finally did something by faxing in his reinstatement papers.

Mark Teixeira

The best player on the trade market goes to the team with the best record — the Angels.

Jimmie Johnson

The two-time defending points champ fought through NASCAR’s ugliest race of the season to win at the Brickyard.

Tim Donaghy

The tainted NBA referee was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Do they get TNT in the big house?

Mark Cuban

David Stern’s other big headache, the Dallas Mavericks owner, is a finalist to purchase the Chicago Cubs.

In light of his papers getting filed, this list is worth revisiting:

1. New York Jets — Talk about Favre overload. Get him in the NYC market.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — A quarterback battle with Jeff Garcia and the 11 other QBs in camp.

3. Kansas City Chiefs — Herm Edwards is hilarious, and, hey, it worked for Joe Montana, kinda.

4. Minnesota Vikings — The best fit but Purple and Green don’t mix. It would get ugly.

5. Baltimore Ravens — Unless they enjoy watching Troy Smith jump and skip around behind that line, this would be a wise move.
