You go, girl

Buffy Sainte-Marie’s songs have been performed by varied artists including Barbra Streisand and Elvis Presley, and one co-written tune (“Up Where We Belong”) won her an Academy Award. The musician, a Cree Indian, is also known for her outspokenness on issues facing American Indians. Today, she’ll be giving free talks about her music at noon and 6:30 p.m. at the National Museum of the American Indian (Fourth Street and Independence Avenue Southwest). Call 202/633-1000 or visit www.nmai.si.edu for details.
