SEEN AND HEARD IN VIERA, FLA.

TIGERS 5, NATIONALS 3

Jason Bergmann pitched well against most of the Tigers’ regulars, but that lineup is good enough to beat almost anybody. Detroit strung together seven hits and scored three runs (two earned) off Bergmann, who worked 52/3 innings and struck out four while walking two.

He wasn’t helped by his defense — Dmitri Young made an error and couldn’t scoop out a low Cristian Guzman throw that left the shortstop with an error and set up the Tigers’ first run.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his fourth home run of the spring, a two-run shot in the eighth.

Now 10-16-2, they’re going to finish under .500 for the fourth straight spring.

UP — JOEL HANRAHAN

THE SURPRISE OF THE SPRING HAS GIVEN UP TWO HITS IN 12 INNINGS.

DOWN — Jupiter, Fla.

Fifth (and thankfully final) trip there today.
