Drew in hit-and-run
Drew Barrymore was the victim in a hit-and-run accident, but instead of staying put, she followed the other driver and took down the license plate number, Associated Press reports.
The actress, 33, wasn’t injured when her car was rear-ended Monday in West Hollywood, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Kristin Aloma. The officer said Miss Barrymore followed the other vehicle and got its license plate number, which she then handed over to sheriff’s deputies.
Sgt. Aloma said she didn’t know the extent of damage to Miss Barrymore’s car. No arrests had been reported yesterday, AP says.
“It could be dangerous,” Sgt. Aloma said of following someone after an accident. Still, she emphasized that getting a license plate number is instrumental to tracking down a hit-and-run motorist.
Miss Barrymore’s screen credits include the “Charlie’s Angels” movies, “Fever Pitch” and “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.”
Eating for two?
Beyonce Knowles still won’t confirm her April 4 wedding to Jay-Z, so there was no chance yesterday that she would confirm she’s pregnant, the New York Post reports. Pals of the tight-lipped newlyweds, however, say the songbird is, indeed, expecting the couple’s first child.
A rep for Beyonce told the newspaper: “I don’t know if she’s pregnant. Let me perform an ultrasound and get back to you.”
Rapper sentenced
Rapper Remy Ma has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the shooting of a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub, AP reports.
The New York Supreme Court sentence was handed out yesterday to the 26-year-old artist, whose real name is Remy Smith, for assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion.
Remy Ma, who could have faced up to 25 years in prison, was teary-eyed as she heard the sentence. She says last summer’s shooting was an accident; an appeal is planned.
Corrections officials also said they called off her weekend wedding at the Rikers Island jail after the groom — fellow rapper Papoose (real name Shamele Mackie) — showed up with a handcuff key. Remy Ma’s lawyer, Ivan Fisher, denies the key could be used to unlock handcuffs. Papoose has not been charged.
Mr. Fisher says the two still plan to wed.
Nuptials ahead
Speaking of weddings, love also is in bloom for Ashlee Simpson — who reportedly is gearing up for a wedding this weekend, says the New York Daily News.
The singer, 23, will tie the knot with fiance Pete Wentz, 28, Saturday at a secret location, US Weekly reports. Miss Simpson and the Fall Out Boy bassist reportedly are expecting their first child together in October.
The couple announced their engagement in April but have since remained coy on reports that Miss Simpson is expecting.
Movie for the madam
Apparently, we haven’t heard the last of Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the so-called “D.C. madam,” who committed suicide two weeks ago rather than go to jail.
According to the New York Post, literary agents Marianne Strong and Jason Allen Ashlock are discussing doing a documentary on Miss Palfrey with producer Beverly Camhe. They also have commissioned legendary biographer C. David Heymann and Gerry Visco to “pen a book looking inside the sex industry, with Miss Palfrey as the touchstone.
Weiland in — and out
Scott Weiland was released from jail at 6:54 p.m. Monday after serving just 10 hours of his 192-hour sentence, TMZ.com reports.
The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman turned himself in at 8:55 a.m., was officially booked just after noon and then was assigned a housing location at 6:41 p.m. That wasn’t necessary, however, because he was released just 13 minutes later.
The sentence stemmed from a November misdemeanor drunken-driving charge. Mr. Weiland, 40, pleaded no contest to the charge of drunken driving on April 28, his second DUI conviction.
In addition to his now-completed jail time, Mr. Weiland still must complete an 18-month alcohol program as part of his sentence. He also must pay nearly $2,000 in fines and will be on summary probation for four years, AP says.
