Feeling sand between your toes? Now that Memorial Day has come and gone and the summer season has started, Washington-area residents are beginning their rituals of packing up the car and the family to head to the Maryland and Delaware beaches for a long weekend, a week or two, or maybe even a month.

Some area residents are able to experience the joys of beach life a little more often if they have purchased a home near the water where they can visit frequently, no matter what the season. Many of these vacation-home owners choose to work from home part of the time or opt to make their vacation home a permanent residence when they are ready to retire.

The beach offers a wide range of homes, including town homes, cottages and villas, single-family homes and condominiums.

While some consumers may assume that vacation-home owners are naturally wealthy, the homes available today at the beach range from the upper $200,000s to more than $1,000,000.

At Bay Forest at Bethany Beach, Del., on the edge of the Indian River Bay, town homes, cottages, villas and single-family homes are being built in a Natelli Communities Inc. development.

Villa-style town homes and single-family homes are available from NVHomes and Ryan Homes, priced from the upper $200,000s to the upper $300,000s.
