It’s not often that I get excited about new products that truly will help anglers of all stripes. However, the new Sheffield Angler 17-in-1 multi-tool actually is worth the price at $26.99. I’ve played with and used the neatly folding/unfolding multi-tool for three weeks now, and it has yet to disappoint during any of my fishing trips.

The Angler that looks like a pair of powerful pliers is good for freshwater and saltwater use. The tool weighs nine ounces, stays in a belt sheath when not in use, unfolds with the push of a finger and offers not only needlenose pliers, but also a hook sharpener, 3 line splicers, a 3-inch fillet blade (not the best length for fillet knives unless you plan to fillet 4-inch-long sunfish), scissors, fish scaler, hook remover, small ruler, hard file, wire cutters, several slotted as well as Phillips-head screwdrivers, an awl and a soft file.

The one thing I would have done differently was to leave off the sharp-toothed split-ring attaching feature on the needlenose’s very top. It’s not helpful when you need a flat end on the pliers. Other than that, the multi-tool is a winner.

The Angler can be purchased through Amazon.com and you can learn more about it and other multi-tools at GreatNeckBrands.com.
