COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) - Viktor Tikhonov’s goal with 2:32 remaining helped Phoenix beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Wednesday night, ending the Coyotes’ six-game losing skid.

The Coyotes had just weathered almost a minute with a two-man disadvantage when captain Shane Doan dug the puck off the back wall and backhanded a pass to Tikhonov, who was skating from right to left along the goal line. He deked with the puck and slid it past goaltender Steve Mason for his second goal of the year.

Tikhonov is the grandson of the former Soviet national team coach.

The Coyotes won by getting goals from three unlikely scorers. David Hale picked up his first career goal in his five seasons in the NHL, and tough guy Daniel Carcillo added his second of the season.

Mikael Tellqvist ended up with 38 saves.

Kristian Huselius converted one of five breakaway chances to open the scoring for Columbus and Jason Chimera added the tying goal a minute into the third period.

The Coyotes had not won since beating the Blue Jackets 5-2 on Nov. 12, also in Nationwide Arena.

Columbus, 8-3-0 when leading after a period, grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 8:08 mark when Fedor Tyutin intercepted a deflected pass by Phoenix’s Keith Yandle and backhanded a lead pass to Huselius at the center circle. Huselius skated the distance and picked up his eighth goal when Tellqvist blocked a piece of the puck but it slid between his leg pads and into the net.

Mason, a rookie goaltender, had strung together 108 minutes, 8 seconds of shutout hockey before Phoenix broke through on an unlikely goal scorer. Hale scored for the first time in his 231st NHL game. He snapped off a shot from the top of the left circle after taking a cross-ice pass from Kyle Turris.

The Coyotes then cashed in on their fourth power play, again from an unlikely source. This time it was Carcillo, who had only one goal in his first 16 games this season. Yandle threw the puck at the net from the right point, with Carcillo redirecting it off his stick for the 2-1 lead.

The Blue Jackets tied it on a 2-on-1 pass from R.J. Umberger to Chimera for the jam shot.

Notes:@ Tellqvist got the start in goal for Phoenix since Ilja Bryzgalov had lost his last five starts. … Phoenix C Olli Jokinen suffered an upper-body injury in the first period and did not return. … Columbus RW Derek Dorsett had a lengthy fight with Carcillo early in the game, leaving the ice immediately after sustaining an undisclosed injury. … Mason finished with 22 saves.
