Year started: 1979

How did you get started in real estate? I purchased my first home in 1977. After talking with many salespeople who were only concerned with selling the property they showed, I met an agent that listened and took a genuine interest in what my family needed. She inspired me, and I wanted to provide people with the same quality of service that I received.

How long have you been with the current company? I have been with my current company for about one year. I have known and respected my broker for many years.

Licenses and designations: associate broker, District and Maryland; graduate, Realtor Institute; certified residential specialist; I have taken classes toward becoming a certified international professional specialist

Associations: Prince George’s County Association of Realtors and Women’s Council of Realtors

Awards: 2007 Shining Star award from the Maryland Association of Realtors for teaching a “credit smart” course to English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students in Prince George’s County Public Schools

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: My greatest accomplishment has been being able to help Habitat for Humanity build affordable houses in several states. My future goal is to assist with building projects outside the country.

Area of specialty: My niche is helping first-time buyers and move-up buyers pursue their dreams.

Highest-priced home sold: $650,000

Most memorable house: The most memorable house I sold was to a young couple who had to overcome credit issues. They had been living with their in-laws for more than a year. They were considering a subprime loan with an adjustable rate. Instead, I helped find them a state program with a below-market interest rate.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: The worst experience was with an older couple that wanted to move closer to their family in the South. We found a buyer, but the appraiser’s value is less than the current mortgage. The house had been appraised just a year before for 25 percent more. Unfortunately, the people won’t be moving until the market improves.

Age: 60

Family: Married with a son and a daughter

Pets: Tropical fish and a community of wild birds, groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits and deer

Education: Bachelor’s degree from Howard University; master’s degree from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio

Community affiliations/community service: Homehurst South HOA, Red Cross; Habitat for Humanity volunteer, spent one week helping to rebuild in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, and I assist with the affordable-housing committee at the state and county level to support underprivileged and people in distress

Interests: Touring, birding, swimming

Last movie seen: “School for Scoundrels”

What kind of car do you drive? Dodge Dakota truck

Describe your personal dream house: A 1,600-square-foot villa with a great room that measures 20 by 20 feet, a courtyard in the rear for gardening, a two-car garage, a lot that is level and 8,000 square feet or smaller
