FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police say they’ve arrested the husband of a female soldier and charged him and another man with murder after the stabbing death of the servicewoman near Fort Bragg, N.C.
Twenty-nine-year-old Sgt. Christina E. Smith was killed while walking with her husband on Tuesday evening near the Army base.
Police said Friday that Smith’s husband, 26-year-old Sgt. Richard Smith, has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities say an 18-year-old private, Mathew Kvapil, also has been arrested on the same charges.
The slain soldier is a native of Mt. Orab, Ohio. She is the third servicewoman to be killed this year near Fort Bragg. Her husband told police an attacker stabbed his wife in the neck before fleeing.
