More than 40 years after the planned community of Reston was established in Northern Virginia, the town has more than 60,000 residents and a reputation as one of Washington’s most appealing suburbs.

The community’s miles of walking and jogging trails link its neighborhoods with swimming pools, shopping centers, tennis and basketball courts, schools and community centers. Reston Town Center, which includes an ice skating rink and a venue for concerts and events, continues to be expanded with more restaurants, shops, offices and upscale condominiums.

While most Reston residents spend summer days at one of the pools, the buyers of the home at 1136 Round Pebble Lane there will have a private resort at their disposal for entertaining or simply enjoying privacy. Now on the market for $1,325,000, this home has a generously sized heated inground swimming pool with a diving board in the backyard. Mature trees and beautifully landscaped garden beds surround the pool, along with curving brick walls and a lawn area with a separate hot tub.

The half-acre lot has enough space for the garden, hot tub and swimming pool, along with an extensive main-level deck with space for dining and seating areas. A brick patio under a portion of the deck has a charming porch swing that provides a shaded respite from the sun.

Certainly the pool and deck provide an excellent party setting in good weather, but the inside of this home has also been designed for easy entertaining. On the main level, a curving staircase leads from the two-story foyer to the upper level.

Just off the foyer is the formal living room, which shares a two-sided gas fireplace with an elegant marble hearth and surround with the adjacent sunroom. Two sets of French doors link the living room and sunroom.

The step-down sunroom has nine floor-to-ceiling Palladian-style windows with wood shutters and ceramic tile flooring. The living room flows easily into the adjacent formal dining room, which has a bay window and a chandelier.

The main level features hardwood floors, recessed lighting and crown moldings. Adjacent to the foyer is a study with built-in bookcases and cabinets.

At the back of the home are an open kitchen, breakfast area and family room. The center-island kitchen features white cabinets and granite counters and a double window over the kitchen sink. French doors lead from the breakfast area to the deck.

The two-story family room has a dramatic floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, one of the two wood-burning fireplaces in the home. The family room has skylights, a ceiling fan and a bay window. The laundry room has a door to the two-car garage.

The extensive master suite on the upper level is entered through double doors. Off the bedroom are two walk-in closets, each room-sized and with a window. A three-sided glass, gas fireplace warms the bedroom and the separate sitting room. The sunny sitting room has dormer windows with a sloping ceiling and Palladian windows. The luxurious master bath has a whirlpool tub, skylights and a separate shower.

Each of the three additional bedrooms on the upper level has a ceiling fan and a double-door closet; the largest of the three has two deep dormer windows. These bedrooms share a hall bath, which has a skylight and a double-sink vanity.

The finished lower level provides additional space for entertaining, along with bedrooms and additional storage. French doors lead to the brick patio from the above-ground recreation room, a large area with a bar, a billiards table, a seating area and a pingpong table. It is easy to imagine a lively summer party with guests playing games indoors and then heading to the pool or hot tub or to feast on barbecue.

Two additional rooms on this level can be used as bedrooms for overflow guests. The first, used as an exercise room, has recessed lighting, a window and a double-door closet. The owners will convey the exercise equipment and the billiard table to the buyers.

The second bedroom, on the opposite side of the recreation room, has two windows and a double-door closet, but it also has wood-burning brick fireplace.

The lower level also has a full bath and extensive storage, including a large room with pantry shelving.

With all of Reston’s amenities surrounding this home, it may be hard to stay home, but a large family or a family that loves to entertain will relish the more than 5,600 square feet of this home and its resortlike backyard.
