The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) building in downtown Washington has reopened after the all-clear was given that anthrax was not contained in a suspicious package delivered there earlier today.

“We can confirm there was no anthrax or powder substance and no threat from the suspicious package delivered this morning. No employees or visitors were injured, ill or distressed,” said VA spokeswoman Alison Aikele.

The building had closed while security personnel were investigating the package, consisting of a suspicious letter that made note of anthrax.
