The real inconvenient truth is that Al Gore is no environmentalist (“Ahoy there,” Inside Politics Weekend, Politics, Aug. 10). When a person speaks one way but lives another - well, that’s the definition of a hypocrite. In Mr. Gore’s case, he’s not just that, he’s also a political opportunist.

He lives in a house that uses more electricity in one month than any two regular homes use in a year. He burns more pounds of jet fuel in a year than the gallons of gasoline you’ll use for the rest of your life.

His girth and hot air guarantee that his personal carbon footprint is larger than that of an entire American family. He’s also the captain of a 100-foot houseboat he proudly named the Bio-Solar One. Although he bought it with carbon offsets, it nonetheless increased the amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere by quite a bit for one person’s indulgence.

Just because the mendacious in Hollywood, and obtuse in Oslo got duped by this grifter is no reason for the rest of us to be taken in. Real environmentalists would do well to avoid this man like a plague.
