Spring cleaning never goes out of style, slumping Dow or not. In fact, a lack of cash is no excuse not to scrub those floors and bathtubs, according to the frugally minded.

How so?

By using cheap household products such as vinegar, baking soda and vegetable oil, you can clean your entire house at almost no cost.

At www.frugalvillage.com, for example, the recipe for wood-floor cleaner goes as follows: 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup vegetable oil. Mix well and use.

Unclogging a drain? Forget about the $5-plus bottles of liquid designed to unclog it. Instead, the site recommends, dump 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of vinegar. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Then pour boiling water down the drain. Voila!

For hard-to-clean surfaces, sprinkle baking soda directly on the surface and then mist with water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then wipe clean.

Happy - cheap - spring cleaning!
