LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, CALIF. (AP) - A transport truck has careened out of control in a Los Angeles-area intersection and slammed into a bookstore. Authorities say two people died and three were critically injured.

Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mike Brown says the truck was lodged inside the Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse after hitting five vehicles during the Wednesday evening rush. The car-transport truck also damaged a wine store and nail salon.

No one inside the bookstore was hurt. Brown says the truck’s driver and seven other people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Rob Hahnlein says it was not immediately clear what caused the driver to lose control.
