SANTA ANA, CALIF. (AP) - A judge has indicated he will impose the death penalty on a Southern California man for murdering a couple by tying them to an anchor and throwing them from their yacht into the ocean off Southern California.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank F. Fasel (FASS’ ehl) on Friday denied an automatic motion seeking reconsideration of the jury’s recommendation that 29-year old Skylar Deleon be sentenced to death.

Fasel says in his ruling that the aggravating circumstances are so substantial that it warrants death. Fasel plans to sentence Deleon later Friday.

A jury last year convicted the Long Beach man of killing Tom and Jackie Hawks of Prescott, Ariz., in 2004.
