A new residence at 10108 Iron Gate Road in Potomac, now on the market for $5,450,000, features a blend of Old World historic touches including 8-inch-thick stone walls and a slate roof with modern-day amenities such as a California-style heated swimming pool with a spa and waterfalls.

Custom-designed wrought-iron gates open onto a circular paved and asphalt driveway with accent lighting leading to the 2.15-acre estate. The stone walls enclose a walnut front door that blends with the walnut hardwood floors throughout the home. All of the first-floor rooms have mahogany doors.

This estate is designed for entertaining and includes a 1,100-square-foot pool house with an outdoor kitchen that has a six-burner gas range and grill, a refrigerator, an ice maker and a dishwasher. The pool house also has a fireplace, two bathrooms and two storage rooms. An expansive flagstone deck extends the entertainment space surrounding the swimming pool and the back of the home.

This residence is filled with custom-designed cabinetry, millwork, wainscoting and exotic wood paneling that blends with revival-style fireplace mantels and plaster moldings including ceiling medallions, crown moldings and ornamental and pediment moldings.

The two-story foyer features inlaid floors, a formal marble powder room and a staircase with custom-designed wrought-iron railings. The formal living room includes one of the home's seven masonry fireplaces, with a wood mantel, a granite surround and a crystal chandelier overhead. The formal dining room, a banquet-size room, also has a crystal chandelier and a masonry fireplace with a granite surround.

The first level includes “his and her” libraries. Her library includes a deep bay window alcove, wainscoting and a fireplace. His library, on the opposite side of the formal entertaining rooms, has a fireplace and mahogany cabinetry and paneling. The formal rooms have 12-foot ceilings, while the rest of the home has 9- or 10-foot ceilings.

The family room has a 13-foot-high coffered and beamed ceiling, a fireplace, double French doors opening to the flagstone patio and double pocket doors into the kitchen.

The kitchen has a 14-foot-high tray ceiling, custom-designed wood cabinets, green soapstone counters, professional-grade appliances and a dramatically large center island with a 3-inch-thick teak wood countertop. The adjacent breakfast room has a 14-foot ceiling, a chandelier, elaborate paneling and walls of windows with views of the grounds and the pool. The nearby caterer's kitchen includes additional professional-grade appliances, a wine cooler, custom cabinetry and green soapstone counters. A separate walk-in pantry is adjacent to this kitchen, and a second formal powder room is nearby along with the laundry room and mudroom.

The main level also has a master suite with a 12-foot ceiling, cove lighting, a fireplace and an adjoining sitting room with walls of windows overlooking the grounds. The master suite has two walk-in closets and a luxurious bath with a whirlpool tub set in marble, a marble steam shower and a heated marble floor.

Upstairs, a central computer room/playroom includes a window seat and doors to the hall and two of the bedroom suites. Each of the four bedrooms upstairs has a private full bath and a walk-in closet. In addition, the upper level has a mahogany bar with granite countertops next to the entrance to the ironwood terrace overlooking the backyard.

The lower level has been completed with a home theater, a billiard room with a beamed and coffered ceiling, a fireplace and travertine floors; a mahogany bar, a wine room, an exercise room, a cedar sauna, a full bath and a wine cellar. There's also a caretaker's suite with a separate entrance, living room, bedroom, bathroom, full-size kitchen and laundry room.

The home has a four-car garage with additional storage and work areas, an elevator and six-zone heating and central air conditioning systems.
