WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has called the president of Peru to discuss how their two countries could work together to restore economic growth.

The White House says Obama called President Alan Garcia on Friday to discuss the two countries’ shared goals for the hemisphere. The two leaders spoke about the financial crisis ahead of next week’s Summit of the Americas. Obama heads to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday for the summit.

Obama also thanked Garcia for helping to fight drug trafficking in the region.
