ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Not all Virginians or Democrats were unhappy with Gov. Tim Kaine’s decision to sign the “Choose Life” license plate bill into law (“Kaine signs off on ‘Choose Life’ license plates,” Metro, Tuesday). Pro-life Democrats around the country praised Mr. Kaine’s decision. The governor received comments from people on both sides of the abortion debate, including Democrats For Life of America. In the end, he did what was constitutionally correct.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia said it was “shameful” that the legislature and the governor “wasted time and resources” on the bill. The real shame is that abortion advocates consistently fail to recognize or acknowledge that pregnancy-resource centers are on the front line of reducing the abortion rate - by providing job training, clothes, cribs, diapers and shelter to women who do not want to have abortions. Another real shame is that groups claiming to promote women’s rights actually promote abortion but not the right to carry a baby to term.
