WASHINGTON (AP) - Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman wants negotiations for a long-term contract to end when the regular season starts.

Zimmerman and the Nationals have been having talks throughout spring training. Nationals president Stan Kasten has said he would like to reach an agreement before opening day.

Zimmerman tells The Associated Press on Saturday that if there isn’t something in place by Monday’s first game, he wants a break in negotiations. He says the last thing he needs is to be worrying about something other than trying to help the Nationals win.
