PRAGUE (AP) - Barack Obama says North Korea’s rocket launch threatens the security of countries “near and far.”

Speaking to reporters in Prague, Obama says North Korea’s move demands a response from the international community. The president says it also underscores the urgency of the plan he is spelling out on Sunday to combat the spread of nuclear weapons.

Obama confirmed that he was woken up for the news of the launch.

The U.N. Security Council is meeting in an emergency session on Sunday to deal with the matter.

The United States and other nations suspect the launch was a cover for a test of North Korea’s long-range missile technology.
