Will, Kate to wed?

Photographs published Sunday of Prince William‘s girlfriend Kate Middleton, clad in khaki on a Scottish hunting trip, have rekindled speculation that the pair will soon announce their engagement, Fox News reports.

British Sunday newspapers ran pictures showing Miss Middleton, 25, on a stag hunting expedition at the royal family’s Balmoral estate alongside Prince William’s father, Prince Charles.

The Sunday Telegraph said it was the first time Miss Middleton had been photographed with Prince Charles, “fueling speculation that she is about to become engaged to Prince William.” The Sunday Times said the pictures suggested that Miss Middleton’s “induction into the royal family appears to have stepped up a notch.”

Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the trip, saying it was a private activity.

Prince William and Miss Middleton met at St. Andrews University in Scotland and dated for several years, but announced their split in April as speculation swirled that they were about to marry.

Glitz and glamour

Portofino on the Italian Riviera was the backdrop for Sunday’s star-studded 51st birthday celebration for Madonna, Agence France-Presse reports, citing a dispatch from the ANSA news agency.

A flotilla of yachts was noted heading for the nearby Gulf of Tigullio near the villa of fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who were expected to host the birthday party, the report says.

The Material Mom made waves Saturday when her Sticky and Sweet tour concert in Poland coincided with the Feast of the Assumption, a high point of the Catholic calendar marking the traditional belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, also known as the Madonna, was taken into heaven.

‘Stone cold sober’

Pop star George Michael, 46, was arrested and questioned after his Land Rover car collided with a truck in Britain, but the singer insisted Saturday he was “stone cold sober” at the time, Agence France-Press reports.

Mr. Michael was held in the early hours of Friday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink and drugs, but was released without charge after five hours, according to a BBC report.
