ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Inviting professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Sgt. Jim Crowley, the major players in what should have remained a minor local law enforcement matter, to a beer summit on the White House lawn to try to get out from under the biggest gaffe in the history of presidential press conferences, while itself rather unpresidential, may have made some political sense (“Obama plays peacemaker at beer get-together,” Nation, Friday). However, having the king of gaffes, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., attend was, well, just stupid. Especially in recent weeks, acting “stupidly,” intentionally or otherwise, has become the hallmark of the Obama administration.
