The “Blue Dog” Democrats have been in the news a lot lately. They are said to be the ones holding up the president’s government-run health care plan. They are a well-rehearsed theatrical group of so-called fiscally conservative Democrats. The media have no choice but to report what the Blue Dogs tell them.

I think it is all a sham. All the frenetic reporting by the media makes for great theater, but it’s much ado about nothing. Democrats such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will put on a great show of pretending to modify the bill under pressure from the Blue Dogs, but in reality, the same objectionable stuff will remain in the bill under a different name or hidden under an obscure portion of the bill. It’s all smoke and mirrors, and in the end, the American people will suffer the consequences.

The whole thing would be laughable if it were not so serious. The Blue Dog Democrats will eventually put on a great show of caving, and the media will eat it up. The Blue Dogs, just like the Democrats to the far left, will give this president what he wants. After all, they are all Democrats at the end of the day, and therein lies the tragedy of one-party rule.
