NEWSMAKERS WHO’S MAKING HEADLINES THIS WEEK

Tiger Woods

He got rattled by a bug and hit a spectator’s cup of beer. Plenty of entertainment from Woods in the last Buick Open.

Ryan Kraft

Fulfilled every man’s dream after crashing the Penguins’ locker-room celebration and holding the Stanley Cup.

Bryant Johnson

He missed the start of the training camp after falling out of a tipped golf cart and sliding down a hill. Perhaps it’s a bad omen for Detroit.

Plaxico Burress

Gets indicted months after shooting himself in the thigh. The only smart thing he can do this year is not let a jury hear his case.

Matt Leinart

Started as the No. 1 quarterback. Then he was No. 2. With Arizona bringing back Brian St. Pierre, could Leinart sink to No. 3?

TWT FIVE ” COLLEGE FOOTBALL FRESHMEN

1. Matt Barkley, Southern Cal - Rated the best high school QB in the nation, the Trojans hope Barkley can take Mark Sanchez’s place and live up to all the hype.

2. Tate Forcier, Michigan - Without any good competition, it appears the freshman QB will take the field on Day One. Let’s see if he can pull out more than three wins.

3. Larry Caper, Michigan State - The running back is most likely to be one of the few freshman at Michigan State to see turf on the first game day.

4. Manti Te’o, Notre Dame - Coach Charlie Weis’ biggest catch of the year, the top-ranked linebacker in the nation is prepared to add a burst of speed to the Fighting Irish defense.

5. D.J. Fluker, Alabama - Considered the best offensive lineman recruit in the past five years, he is expected to fill the shoes of Andre Smith.

HE SAID WHAT?

“I am not sorry for how I acted that night. I am not sorry for how I responded.” - Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce on the Nov. 29 shooting incident involving Plaxico Burress
