Joel pining for Mrs.

Billy Joel should have tried to “Get It Right the First Time” with soon-to-be-ex-wife Katie Lee Joel. The New York Post, quoting unnamed sources, says the aging pop star — who is legally separated from his third wife — is distraught over the June breakup and wants to get his woman back.

According to friends of the couple, “Billy is obsessed with her” and is trying to rekindle the relationship. The two split because Mrs. Joel, 27 — a TV food critic and chef — wanted to have children and a family, and Mr. Joel, 60, did not. Adding to the tension were his estranged wife’s many nights out with designer Yigal Azrouel.

Insiders told the newspaper that Mr. Joel now believes Mr. Azrouel and Mrs. Joel were never more than friends.

The Piano Man, who’s sharing the bill with Elton John on a cross-country tour, reportedly was dating former soap star Alex Donnelley, but it seems that romance has fizzled, the Post reported Monday.

A representative for Mrs. Joel had no comment. Mr. Joel’s spokeswoman told the newspaper, “The split between them is amicable. They remain friendly, and they do communicate.”

Naomi’s at it again

Either Naomi Campbell forgot what she learned in anger-management class or someone’s hoping to make a quick buck off her reputation for using accessories as a weapon.

According to Denverpost. com, an Italian paparazzo is claiming the hotheaded supermodel smacked him around with her purse in Sicily, leaving his face scratched and his left eye damaged.

“I managed to avoid her — but her nails still got my eye,” photographer Gaetano Di Giovanni told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

Miss Campbell’s rep denied the claims to London’s Daily Mail, and the police in Lipari, the town where the aging supermodel reportedly delivered the handbag beat-down, said no report has been filed.

Last year, Miss Campbell, 39, narrowly avoided a prison term after getting slap-happy with police in London’s Heath- row Airport.

She paid a $4,600 fine and performed 200 hours of community service for that fracas.

Body and sole

Former reality star Jason Wahler (“The Hills”)was arrested Friday night after cops say he got drunk and started throwing shoes, RadarOnline.com reports.

According to the Web site, Mr. Wahler was out at the Ocean Avenue Brewery in Laguna Beach, Calif., when he got into an altercation with the bouncer. An officer with the Laguna Beach police tells RadarOnline.com: “We went there on a report of a guy fighting with the bouncers. We found Jason Wahler intoxicated on the street.”

After twice being ejected from the bar, Mr. Wahler reportedly took off his shoes and threw one in the direction of the bouncers, but hit some patrons instead. He also reportedly punched one of the bouncers in the eye. Police then arrested him for public intoxication and battery.

Mr. Wahler was released Tuesday morning, RadarOnline.com reports
