Chris Matthews’ recent comment that President Obama “went to … the enemy camp” when he spoke at West Point was insulting to our armed forces, which, as it happens, keep this nation free so that people like Mr. Matthews can make fools of themselves in public (“The enemy at West Point,” Editorial, Dec. 4).

There is no doubt in my military mind that Mr. Matthews’ former boss, former House Speaker Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, would have given him a swift and emphatic trip to the proverbial woodshed for his antics. I understand Mr. Matthews had - had - some political aspirations of his own.
