ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Wednesday’s vote on the stimulus package was a good first step toward economic recovery (“Stimulus plan passes in House without GOP,” Nation, Thursday). Given that the vote was along party lines, with all 177 Republicans voting no and all but 11 Democrats voting yes, I wonder how the Republicans can sleep at night knowing they turned their collective back on helping the country climb out of the hole in which we, as a nation, find ourselves.

I am not the smartest guy on the planet, but I would say the Republican Party made a tactical error in opposing President Obama’s recovery bill. To me, it’s as if Lincoln’s Grand Old Party would rather be known as the Great Obstructionist Party. If true, how is that going to help America regain its economic footing?
