UPDATED:

NEW YORK (AP) — Officials say one person has been killed and 28 hurt in a fire at an apartment building in Manhattan’s Chinatown.

Authorities say four residents were seriously injured. Some people jumped from windows on the fifth and sixth floors.

Fire Chief of Operations Patrick McNally says the fire started early Tuesday on the second floor. The cause is under investigation.

Eight of those hurt are firefighters who suffered minor injuries.
