ANALYSIS/OPINION:

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

If ignorance of constituents’ concerns paid dividends, our D.C. Council members would be pretty wealthy.

It took just six days into the new year for the new council to find a way to dish out more dollars. Led by council member Jim Graham, Ward 1 Democrat, the council voted to double street-parking meter rates in some areas of the city. Only one council member voted against the unjustified increase. You will hear the council cry foul and say the city needs the revenue for affordable housing and city services, but shouldn’t the members have thought of that when they wasted our money by ordering D.C. Fire Department recruits to work as wait staff at Mr. Graham’s invitation-only holiday party? Or when Mayor Adrian M. Fenty spent $50,000 of taxpayer money for his staff and security to travel the country to campaign for presidential candidate Barack Obama?
