Early Wednesday, the morning after the inauguration, President Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and members of their families will attend a national prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral in Northwest.

The service will bring together dignitaries and Americans of diverse faiths to celebrate the previous day’s events through prayer, readings and musical performances. The event is not open to the public. The service is by invitation only, and tickets are required. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. All ticketed guests should arrive before 8:30 a.m.

Fast fact: In 1825, John Quincy Adamsbecame the first president sworn in wearing long trousers.
