Year started: I started in 1980, as a part-time agent with Dulles Properties Inc. in Sterling, Va.

How did you get started in real estate? I worked for a lawyer who handled numerous real estate transactions. I decided to pursue a real estate license when I realized how much I already knew from my experience handling Virginia contracts.

How long have you been with the current company? Since 1994

Licenses and designations: Licensed in Virginia and West Virginia; graduate, Realtor Institute; certified residential specialist; certified international property specialist; accredited buyer representative

Associations: Dulles Area Association of Realtors (DAAR, formerly the Loudoun County Board of Realtors)

Awards: Omega Tau Rho of the National Association of Realtors, a Realtor Medal of Service for Local, State and National Association participation, Multiple Million Dollar Hall of Fame for DAAR and Realtor of the Year for DAAR

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Continuing to working within a difficult marketplace and going back to basics and hoping technology will find buyers for all of my listings. Networking with other Realtors and understanding market statistics for local areas is paramount to advising customers and clients in this challenging economic climate!

Area of specialty: When top-notch, professional involvement is necessary, my certified residential specialist designation is paramount. Every transaction in the current market will be best served by Realtors who aspire to be the best through education and experience.

Highest-priced home sold: $2,250,000

Most memorable house: Selma, a Leesburg period home and property reminiscent of old Virginia and its place in commerce, agriculture and history. A true Virginia legend!

Age: Born in 1945

Family: Husband, H. Powers Thomas

Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical education from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., 1967 (Delta Gamma Fraternity)

Community affiliations: Regional council member, Loudoun United Way; board member, Keep Loudoun Beautiful

Last book read: “From Beirut to Jerusalem” by Thomas L. Friedman

Last movie seen: “W.”

What kind of car do you drive? A few different ones, from a turbo-powered VW to a Toyota Tundra truck. I sell houses and land, so wheels need to be versatile.

Describe your personal dream house: My dream house would have windows everywhere, passive solar, views and minimal landscape maintenance in a walking community - a place to live for at least 20 years! Green building is our future and should be part of any plan to build or renovate.
