Congress, at times, can be dumber than a box of rocks. Donald Lambro is exactly right in his discussion of the real goals of the liberal Democrats (“Tax your employee benefits?” Opinion, Monday). Most small employers, especially in this economy, are not making scads of money. If you take away the tax deductibility of their contributions, which pay for their employees’ health care, they will give pay increases to their employees and tell them to pay for the whole premium themselves. The employer keeps the tax deduction, but a good percentage of the employees will opt out of the health care program, thereby increasing the number of the uninsured.

President Obama promised, in his characteristically smooth way, not to raise the taxes of anyone earning less than $250,000. Beware of the smooth talkers.
