Dupont Circle has long been one of Northwest’s most sought-after neighborhoods, with the circle itself a hot spot for locals and visitors on the weekends and office workers looking for a lunchtime escape on the weekdays.

The Richmond condominium building, in the heart of the Dupont Circle neighborhood at 1401 17th St. NW, is a nine-story building with 130 homes, an outdoor swimming pool and a two-level underground parking garage. Located two blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station and within walking distance of multiple shops and restaurants, the Richmond is a prime example of urban living.

The condominium association for the building recently renovated the facade of the whole complex. An elegant awning extends from the front of the building between two landscaped garden beds. The building is secured with a locked front door inside a glass-enclosed vestibule with an intercom system for screening guests. Just off the lobby are an office for the staff and a mail room.

Part of a planned unit development built in 1987, this building wraps around an enclosed garden maintained by the office building next door. Most homes in the building include a balcony in addition to keys to the enclosed garden, but the condominium offers a surprising feature for downtown Washington: an outdoor swimming pool.

Residents appreciate the building’s staff and security, along with a pet-friendly atmosphere that allows pets of any size. In addition, the residents are able to control their own air conditioning and heat settings.

Unit 701 is now on the market for $429,000. It is a renovated one-bedroom home with a den and two full baths. A parking space in the garage is available for rent at $185 per month.

Located on the quieter side of the building overlooking the garden, this home is filled with morning sun that floods in through the sliding glass door and oversized windows. The home features a black marble floor that extends from the front door through the foyer and into the adjacent kitchen.

The updated kitchen includes black granite counters, maple cabinets and stainless steel appliances, including a refrigerator with an in-door ice and water dispenser, a glass-topped stove, a dishwasher and a built-in microwave. The kitchen includes a pass-through window to the combined living and dining area.

The living and dining area has ceramic tile floors. At one end of this room is a sliding glass door that opens onto a balcony overlooking the garden and nearby high-rise buildings.

To the right of the living area is a master bedroom with hardwood floors and a tall double window overlooking the garden. The owner renovated the walk-in closet in this room, adding a distinctive stone veneer wall to the outside and maple drawers and shelving to the interior. An adjacent closet holds a stacked, full-size washer and dryer. A full bath with ceramic tile floors, a combination tub and shower and a pedestal sink is also part of the master suite.

On the opposite side of the living area is the den, which is entered through French doors. This room has a tall window overlooking the garden and can function as a home office or guest bedroom. Just off the den are a full bath with ceramic tile floors, a shower and a closet.

This home is just right for buyers who are ready to enjoy life in one of the most vibrant sections of the city. Area residents can walk to a Metro station to get to nearly any part of the city or suburbs. Residents can walk through the West End and Foggy Bottom neighborhoods to reach Georgetown for more city pleasures, or north on 18th Street to Adams Morgan.
