Arlington County police say Alexandria Chief of Police David P. Baker is facing a drunken driving charge following an accident in which a driver was injured.

Arlington police said Chief Baker was arrested about 11 p.m. Saturday following the accident in Arlington.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Police said Chief Baker, who was driving an unmarked city vehicle, registered a 0.19 blood alcohol level and was released after booking.

Police say that, because of the arrest, Alexandria City Manager James K. Hartmann has placed Chief Baker on paid administrative leave and appointed Deputy Chief of Police Earl Cook as acting chief.
