SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Nomar Garciaparra is back for the Oakland Athletics.

The A’s activated the infielder from his second stint on the 15-day disabled list Friday before the team’s Bay Bridge opener against the San Francisco Giants. Oakland optioned Aaron Cunningham to Triple-A Sacramento to clear room on the roster.

Garciaparra tested his strained right calf by running and taking batting practice at AT&T; Park, a precaution before the club brought him off the DL.

Garciaparra, who turns 36 on July 23, was on the DL for the 14th time in his career and fifth in two seasons. He missed 90 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and needed three DL stints with injuries to his right hand, left calf and left knee.
