Cooke’s Hope in Easton provides the perfect ambience for a vacation or retirement home. It is a community with plenty of recreational amenities and places to walk - and a location close to the Eastern Shore’s historic towns of Easton, Oxford and St. Michaels.

Ilex Construction & Development Inc. is building 20 single-family homes in the Leeward section of Cooke’s Hope. The homes were designed by architect Lyman S.A. Perry, who specializes in coastal-style homes.

The signature element of these homes, however, is the extensive woodwork. The homes feature smooth-grained hardwood floors, solid wood doors, wood moldings and hand-tooled cabinetry of cherry, maple, oak and rosewood.

Residents can enjoy a small-craft marina, five miles of walking trails, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, a tennis court, a putting green, a picnic pavilion and wildlife and waterfowl sanctuaries. Homeowners pay $1,750 annually for maintenance of the common areas, $1,200 annually for private landscaping and $360 annually for the fitness center.

Each home in the community will be built on half-acre or larger lots. The homes are built to Super E standards, which means they have been designed for energy efficiency and healthier air quality. The homes have three or four bedrooms and 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 baths. Base prices range from $875,000 to $895,000.

The Cooke’s Villa model, which has 3,800 finished square feet, is priced from $895,000. The front porch on this home wraps around one side and is accessible through glass doors in the dining room.

The foyer entrance includes stairs to the upper level and an entrance into the living room, which has two walls of windows and a fireplace. Both the dining room and the living room are generously proportioned. The entire first floor features wide-planked walnut floors.

At the back of this home are the center-island kitchen, a breakfast room with two walls of windows and a gathering room with a fireplace. Adjacent to these rooms (and also accessible from the living room) is a spacious terrace.

Just past the gathering room are a side porch and a mudroom leading to the garage, which has extensive storage space above it.

The main level also includes a master suite with windows on three sides, two walk-in closets and a luxury bath with a double-sink vanity, a soaking tub and a separate shower.

Upstairs are three more bedrooms, each with a private full bath.

The Vesper Lane model, priced at $875,000, has 3,600 finished square feet, with four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths. This home has a front porch accessible to the foyer, living room and master sitting room.

The living room includes four sets of French doors leading to the front porch and a stone terrace. The main level also includes a dining room with a wall of windows.

At the back of the home, with access to the terrace, are a breakfast area and a custom center-island kitchen with a walk-in pantry. A mudroom leads to a breezeway connected to the detached garage, which has extensive storage above it.

The first-floor master suite has a bedroom with windows on three sides, an oversized walk-in closet, a luxury bath and a separate sitting room with windows on three sides.

Upstairs are three additional bedrooms, two more full baths, a storage room, a laundry room and extensive closet space.
