ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Your Tuesday “Washington in 5 minutes” article (“Migratory birds brought down jet,” Nation) just might have vindicated Homeland Security Secretary Janet A. Napolitano for her controversial, widely reported statement, “To the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it’s been across the Canadian border.”

After all, those birds certainly terrorized the passengers and crew of the US Airways jet that safely ditched in the Hudson River in January. And, as The Washington Times reported, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History confirms the likely Canadian border crossing. The birds were “most similar to migratory Canada geese from the Labrador [Canada] region.”
