Your Wednesday editorial “Taxing McDonnell” was excellent. Hard-hitting editorials like that are the reason I buy The Washington Times every day. Conservatives shouldn’t be fooled by so-called conservatives like Bob McDonnell, who probably has a secret plan to raise our taxes. That’s the real reason he will not sign the pledge against tax increases.

In fact, you guys should be even harder on him. Why not mention his plans to spend billions on an unnecessary train to Tysons Corner? Or his scheme to charge tolls for the high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes on Interstates 395 and 495? What’s next, fees for public schools? Or maybe a by-the-minute service charge for 911 calls? He reminds me of that song by the Beatles, “Taxman”: “If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat / If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.”

As a Virginia conservative, I would like to see someone stand up to the big spenders in Richmond - not join them.
