PARIS, TEXAS (AP) - A judge has moved the East Texas trial of two white men accused in the death of a black man who was run over and dragged by a pickup truck.

Judge Scott McDowell ruled Thursday that defendants Shannon Finley and Charles Crostley will be tried separately in Sulphur Springs in Hopkins County. That’s about 40 miles south of Paris, which is in Lamar County.

The case was set to be tried in Paris, a town with a history of tense race relations.

The defendants are charged with murder in the death of 24-year-old Brandon McClelland, whose mangled body was found Sept. 16 on a country road.

McClelland’s body was caught beneath the pickup truck and dragged about 70 feet.
