JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Trading firm Knight Capital Group Inc. said Friday trading volume increased in February both in terms of average trades executed and the dollar value of those trades.

Average daily U.S. equity trade volume more than doubled to 3.8 million trades per day in February, from about 1.6 million in February 2008. Average daily share volume increased 75 percent to 6.1 billion shares traded per day, from 3.6 billion during the same month a year ago.

The average daily dollar value for trades in February rose 27 percent to $19.5 billion, from $15.4 billion during the same month last year.

Shares of Knight Capital shed 54 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $16.59 in morning trading.
