A man was struck and killed by a Metro train at the McPherson Square station Friday afternoon, D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter said.

The incident happened at about 1:15 p.m., closing the station for nearly three hours and disrupting service on the Orange and Blue lines.

A preliminary investigation indicated the man was intentionally on the tracks, Mr. Etter said.

Shuttle buses were used to transport passengers between adjacent stations.
