The article “Obama vows to get tough on earmarks” (Page 1, Thursday) fails to mention the single-most wasteful government earmark: the $30 billion in military aid over the next 10 years to Israel.

When Americans are losing their jobs and homes, it is unconscionable for Congress to give this money to Israel so it can buy more tanks, fighter jets and helicopter gunships to use against Palestinian civilians. Amnesty International has recently called on the Obama administration to suspend military aid to Israel for its violations of international law in the Gaza Strip.

Finally, Israel has violated both the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act. If these laws are to have any meaning, the U.S. must respond by cutting off all foreign aid to Israel.
